The Regatta

Hosted by the Crescent Sail Yacht Club in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, the 2019 F18 North American Championship Regatta is a six-day event with an exciting four days of scheduled racing. In addition to crowning the 2019 F18 North American Champion, there will be awards for the top placing all-female, mixed, youth (both, skipper and crew younger than 23 years old) and masters teams (both, skipper and crew 50 years or older).  We expect 50 boats, 100 competitors, their family and friends, and plenty of spectators.

A large event like this will include plenty of sponsorship and volunteer opportunities. Don't miss your chance to get involved!

The Boat

F18 BoatThe Formula 18 catamaran has evolved over the last 25 years to become one of the fastest growing fleets of racing sailboats. Its design attracts sailors of all ages and experience levels from professional racers to weekend club racers. Although the boats are made by several manufacturers, including Nacra, Falcon, Hobie Cat, Goodall Design, Exploder, and several others, the class has established strict constraints on weight, length, beam and sail area making the F18 an exceptional choice for exhilarating one-design racing.

The Sailors

The 2019 F18 North American Open Championship Regatta will bring sailors together from the US, Canada and beyond. The experience level of the sailors will range from beginners to professionals, youth sailors to retirees. We will have sailors that sail for enjoyment and there will be sailors in attendance that are part of Olympic campaigns preparing to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. We look forward to bringing such a diverse group of sailors together for four days of tough, competitive racing during the day and great camaraderie in the evening as they share their trials and tribulations of the day amongst one another.

The Venue

CSYCCrescent Sail Yacht club is located on the west shore of Lake Saint Clair. The lake is an ideally suited body of water that allows racing to be run in almost any conditions and is a surprisingly clean body of fresh water due to the continual inflow of pristine water from Lake Huron.  No salt.  No sharks.

Crescent, as a true sailing-focused club, takes pride in it's tradition of volunteerism and hospitality, and we greatly look forward to extending this tradition to the F18 sailors in September, 2019. We are excited to note that significant renovations to the club will be completed in the  spring of 2019 which should help make the off-the-water experience almost as good as on the water.
